Box

The Box is the very basic of the 3D Studio VIZ objects. The box can be created with a variety of proportions

to make different kinds of objects, like floor slabs, columns, bricks and so on. The default creation
method is Box. If you select Cube in the Creation Method rollout, a box is created whose
length, width and height are equal. You have already created a box in Chapter 3, using the default
options. You can create a box by either using the Keyboard Entry rollout or by specifying parameters
on the screen. While using the Keyboard Entry rollout, you need to enter values in the Length,
Width, and Height spinners. You can also specify the location where the box is to be created by entering
the X,Y, Z coordinates values in the X, Y, Z spinners. Now, choosing the Create button a box with
the specified length, width and height values is created at the specified location. If you want to specify
parameters on the screen, click in the viewport and drag the mouse to an opposite corner and release it
to define the rectangular base of the box. Then move the cursor up or down to specify the height of the
box and then click again. A box is created as per your specifications. You can modify the parameters
and make them more precise in the Parameters rollout by modifying values in the Length,Width and
Height spinners respectively. If you hold the Shift key while defining the base of the box with the
mouse in the viewport, a square base is created. You will now create a box both by specifying parameters
on the screen and by using the Keyboard Entry rollout. You will be using the steps as described
below.

Sphere

A sphere is like a ball. You have already learnt to create a sphere in the tutorial of Chapter 2, by using
the default option of Center; where the sphere is drawn center outwards. The other option to create a
sphere is to use the Edge option; where you can specify the two edges between which the sphere is
drawn. Here also you can either specify parameters on the screen or use the Keyboard Entry rollout
to create the sphere. When you use the Keyboard Entry rollout, you can enter the value of the radius
of the sphere in the Radius spinner. You can also enter the X, Y and Z coordinate values in the respective
spinners, which locates the sphere. When specifying parameters on the screen, you can simply
click in a viewport and drag to specify the radius of the sphere. You can then modify the radius to make
it more precise in the Radius spinner in the Parameters rollout.

Cylinder

A cylinder is like a box but with a circular base instead of a rectangular or square base. Just like with
most standard primitives, the Creation Method rollout of the cylinder has two creation methods:
Center and Edge. You have already learnt the Center option of creating a cylinder in chapter 2. This
is the default creation method. Using the Center method, the base of the cylinder is drawn center outwards,
depending on the radius you specify. The height of the cylinder is specified by moving the cursor
up to a specific distance and clicking again. You can also draw a cylinder between specific edges by using the Edge option. The radius and height can be further adjusted in the respective spinners in the
Parameters rollout.
